Spoednik has traded under the name Spoednik Bathroom Specialist for long enough that it stuck. Bathrooms are the room we get called back to fix most often for other people, and the failures are almost always the same three things: no membrane, or a membrane that was never turned up the wall; a shower floor that does not fall to the outlet; and penetrations through the waterproofing that were never sealed.
So that is where the money goes on our jobs. Screed to a measured fall, a proper liquid membrane taken up the walls and into the door reveal, flood-tested before a single tile is laid. It is a day of work that nobody ever sees, and it is the difference between a bathroom and a future insurance claim.
Above the membrane, it is craft: setting out the tiling so you are not left with a 20mm sliver in the most visible corner, getting the niche centred on the tile grid, and running silicone lines that are actually straight.
What a bathroom renovation covers
- Strip-out down to substrate, including old screeds and failed membranes
- Re-routing of hot, cold and waste where the layout changes
- Screeding to a measured fall and a flood-tested liquid membrane
- Full wall and floor tiling, set out on a drawn grid
- Shower niches, hobs, benches and frameless glass
- Sanitaryware, mixers, vanities and heated rails installed and commissioned
- Extraction, lighting and the electrical certificate for the work
Our approach
Flood test before tiling
We plug the outlet, fill the shower floor and leave it. If it holds overnight it gets tiled. If it does not, we fix it while fixing it is still cheap.
Tiles set out on paper first
Cut sizes are decided before the first tile goes on, so the awkward cut ends up behind the door and not beside the basin.
Coastal-rated fittings
Within a few kilometres of the beach, cheap chrome pits within a season. We specify finishes that survive salt air and tell you where it is worth spending.

Questions
How long does a bathroom take?
A straight refit, same layout, is usually two to three weeks. Move the plumbing and you add a week. The drying times on screed and membrane are fixed by physics, not by scheduling, so be wary of anyone promising a bathroom in five days.
Can you match tiles in an older home?
Sometimes, if the range is still made. More often we will suggest re-tiling the full room rather than patching, because a near-match reads worse than a deliberate change.
Do you handle the glass and the sanitaryware, or do I buy those?
Either. Most clients pick the sanitaryware themselves and let us supply and fit everything else. We are happy to come to the showroom with you and flag anything that will not last on this coast.
